The ad in the Cadillac Owners Club magazine said, "inherited from my father and needs a good home with a Cadillac enthusiast."
Always a sucker for the family sob story, we drove up to Greensboro, N.C. (That's another story - 13 hours up and 13 hours back!) to see the "Cowboy Cadillac", a 1973 Fleetwood, Brougham, converted to an El Camino style pickup. Yeah, that should be different enough, even for me. It wasn't in bad condition and the price was right, so we put it in the trailer and brought it home.
It runs good, sounds great, thanks to a dual exhaust and glass pack mufflers, we suspect it has been bored out to 500 Cu Inch and maybe has a mild cam.
We got the auto climate controlled air conditioning working, cleaned up the exterior, did some cosmetic work and, oh yes, did I mention the new wheels and tires? American Racing 15 x 8 Torque Thrust II wheels and P235 60 R15 Goodyear GT tires, and check out the fake knock off hubcaps. Tex, as we decided to call him, will need some paint repair in the near future but for now, he gets just enough attention.
Oh, and maybe we'll look for a set of steer horns to mount as a hood ornament, just like "Boss Hawg" had on his Cadillac. And perhaps a CB radio with a giant whip antenna.
Here we go again!
When we were acquiring Tex, we really wanted the Limo version but settled for the pick up instead.
