Collectible Cars

When I first read articles in the April 2007 issue of Road and Track Magazine and Car and Driver Magazine, I fell instantly in love (LUST) with the new Audi R8.

Road and Track's opening paragraph said "Driving Audi's new R8 4.2 FSI supercar is much like kissing a girl for the first time — the image and feel of it become eternally etched into you like a hot-iron branding." Wow!! But he was right!

OK, now I want one so bad that it hurts. Dealer after Dealer, Internet Page after Internet Page and the story was all the same. "They are not in the USA yet."

"When they do come in, we are only allocated 3 cars by Audi, and we have orders for 15."

Obviously, I am out of luck and not destined to own a R8. Oh well, a Mercedes SL55 AMG is no R8, but I can get one with fairly awesome performance in just a few weeks.

So, my mind gives up on the Audi but I do get the Mercedes. It's great but it's not a R8.

One day I'm wondering around the Internet and come across an outfit that mentions the Audi R8. Seems they have an order space for a R8 that will arrive in the USA around June of 2008 or ...... they have one that I can have within 30 days if I would accept silver as the color.

Oh my goodness, I bet this guy is from Nigeria and this is an Internet Scam.

It seems I can secure the car but obviously they need money in order to get the car on a truck. Yup, definitely sounds like an Internet Scam. Whatever you do.... don't give them any money! So,.... I wire transfer a whole lot of bucks to Cleveland so they can pay the owner in Louisiana and he will release the car from his garage in Houston. Are you following this, so far?

Anyway, despite a terrible foreboding that told me I was screwed, in spades, everything turned out fine, the car arrived, the funds got transferred, the DMV was cooperative and when I took the first drive I realized that the report from Road and Track really knew what he was talking about!

IT IS AWESOME!
