The story started when I fell instantly in love with the new Audi R8. Problem is I can't get one of those until 2008 and I'm not that patient!
"No problem" says the local Mercedes guru. "We have something with paddle shifting on the steering wheel and it moves out fairly quickly" "Oh Yeah?" says the MFO, "and what's your definition of quickly?"
At this stage, we should have heard the warning bells, we should have realized that we were being sucked into a salesman's black hole, the little figure sitting on my shoulder whispered, "doesn't cost anything to just check it out." Nobody noticed that the little figure no longer had a red suit and horns on his head but was wearing a crash helmet and racing suit!
"Well," says the Mercedes man, "you're looking at 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds, the 1/4 mile in 13 seconds and a top speed set at 186 mph."
And that's how we ended up with Gretchen!
