I wanted a 1950's convertible, but it had to be something a little different. The late 50's were the years of outrageous excess when Detroit designers "Discovered" chrome, fins and dagmars. Several months of searching through Hemmings Motor News produced a 1958 Buick Limited Convertible in Tennessee. It was outrageous and it fit all of the requirements. Top of the Buick Line, it became known as the chrome king and was the pride of renowned Buick designer Harley Earl. A limited production (only 839) vehicle, it was also a "one year only" model and the limited name was revived for the first and last time since 1941. That should be different enough!!
A total off frame restoration had been done a few years before and the car was almost perfect, except for the fact that it had not been driven very much, the suspension was stripped and lubed, the engine was thoroughly serviced and the air conditioning compressor replaced. Now it was possibly better than when it came from the factory. It's a great drive and instantly transports you back to the fifties.
